Date city is a municipality created by consolidation of 5 towns in 2006.It is located in the northeastern end of Fukushima prefecture , and northeastern part of the city iscontiguous with Marumori-town and Shiroishi-city of Miyagi prefecture.

Date city which is developed along the Abukuma River and its tributaries, Hirose river, Siono river and Yamafunyu river, flowing across hilly land, boasts of its beautiful water and greenery scenery.

Date district used to have a name as the capital of sericulture from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
It was widely known abroad as well for its flourished sericulture.

In a favorable environment, many farmers are engaged in diversified farming , growing two or more diverse crops such as rice ,fruits , vegetables and garden plants on the same piece of land.
Especially persimmons and peaches are the major agricultural products of the region. The origins of Date district can be traced back the year 1189: when the great general Minamoto Yoritomo sent an expeditionary force to Oshu province, a warlord Nakamura-hitachi-nyudo-nensai was bestowed Date district upon his remarkable work in the battle. Later on he build Takakogaoka castle and changed his family name from Nakamura to Date.

Those remains are considered to be the origins of the Date clan.
